Find Their Perfect Ride
Big decisions for small drivers.
A tractor? A supercar? A miniature construction empire?
Choosing the perfect ride-on is serious business. Especially when the person receiving it still needs help putting their shoes on.
Don't worry. We're here to help you find the right machine for your favourite small human.
1. Start with the driver
Age is a guide. Size matters too.
Every ride-on has its own recommended age range, maximum weight and dimensions. Check all three before choosing.
Think about whether your little driver can comfortably reach the pedals, steer and sit securely.
For younger children, a parental remote control can be particularly useful, allowing an adult to take control where the model supports it.
And remember: bigger isn't always better. Even when it has four-wheel drive and looks magnificent.
2. Understand the power
12V or 24V? Here's the difference.
12V — The little legends
Often a good starting point for smaller ride-ons and younger drivers. Ideal for gentler adventures, depending on the model and surface.
24V — The bigger adventures
Commonly found in larger, more powerful vehicles, including tractors, UTVs and trucks. Some are better suited to grass and uneven ground.
48V — The serious machines
Available on selected larger ride-ons, often with more substantial motors and additional features.
But voltage alone doesn't tell the whole story. Motor power, gearing, tyres, weight and terrain all affect performance.
Always check the individual vehicle's specifications.
3. Think about the terrain
Where will the adventures happen?
Patios and smooth surfaces
Many ride-ons are happiest on firm, relatively level ground.
Gardens and grass
Look for models specifically designed to cope with grass, with suitable motors, tyres and ground clearance.
Bigger outdoor spaces
Consider larger UTVs, tractors or off-road-style vehicles, where the manufacturer confirms they're suitable for the intended terrain.
Whatever you choose, ride-ons should be used with adult supervision, away from roads, traffic, water, steep slopes and other hazards.
4. Find their kind of adventure
The Racer
For future supercar owners. Miniature Lamborghinis, Mercedes and other dream machines.
The Farmer
For little people with big agricultural ambitions. Tractors, trailers and plenty of imaginary jobs to get done.
The Builder
For the child who sees a pile of dirt and thinks, opportunity. Diggers, loaders and construction machinery.
The Adventurer
For explorers who prefer the scenic route. UTVs and off-road-inspired machines built for outdoor fun.
The Trucker
For the next generation of haulage heroes. Big trucks for small drivers with important deliveries to make.
5. Check the practical bits
Before you choose, take a moment to check:
- Dimensions and weight limit: Will the driver fit comfortably?
- Parental remote: Is one included, and what can it control?
- Battery and charging: What charging time and estimated run time does the manufacturer specify?
- Assembly: What will you need to put together before the big reveal?
- Storage: Is there somewhere suitable to keep the vehicle dry and secure?
- Features: Working scoops, trailers, lights and music can make all the difference.
Specifications vary between vehicles, so always refer to the individual product page.
6. Safety first. Mischief second.
We love a little chaos. The sensible kind.
Follow the manufacturer's age, weight, charging and assembly instructions. Supervise children during use, choose a safe riding area and use appropriate protective equipment where recommended.
Ride-ons aren't intended for public roads.
